7 Senior Photo Outfit Mistakes to Avoid | Williamsport PA Senior Photographer

Choosing what to wear for your senior photos can feel like one of the hardest parts of the whole experience. The right outfits will help you feel confident, comfortable, and completely yourself in front of the camera, while the wrong ones can be distracting or just not feel like you. Before your session, here are 7 common wardrobe mistakes to avoid (and what to do instead).

01‍ ‍Wearing Busy Patterns

Bold prints and busy patterns can pull attention away from your face and become the main focus of the photo.

Instead, opt for solids or subtle patterns that complement you, not compete with you.

02 Choosing Clothes That Don’t Fit Quite Right

Anything too tight or too loose can feel uncomfortable and that discomfort will show in your photos.

The goal is to wear something that fits well and makes you feel confident when you move, sit, and pose.

03 Ignoring the Location

Your outfit should work with your location, not against it.

A soft, flowy dress looks amazing in a field, while something more structured might work better in an urban setting. Thinking about your location ahead of time makes a huge difference in the final look.

04 Wearing Large Logos or Graphics

Logos, brand names, and graphic tees can be distracting and date your photos over time.

Classic, timeless pieces will always photograph best and keep the focus where it belongs which is on you.

05 Not Planning for Movement

Your session isn’t just standing still, you’ll be walking, sitting, twirling, and moving.

Outfits with a little movement (like flowy dresses or layers) photograph beautifully and add so much variety to your images.

06 Skipping Outfit Variety

Wearing all similar outfits can make your gallery feel repetitive.

Instead, plan for a mix:

  • something casual

  • something dressy

  • something that feels completely you, like a hobby, sport, or personal style

07 Waiting Until the Last Minute

Last-minute outfit decisions almost always lead to stress.

Give yourself time to try things on, mix and match, and make sure everything fits the way you want it to.
